      Ian,

      Thanks - never seen one before, not in real life or in a photo.

      I just read a little on this type and it mentioned all those spores have warts on them.. must do wonders for the lungs when inhaled..! I'd keep your distance - what is and isn't safe and what does and doesn't cause this or that is really generally not known.. and we really seem to understand very little about our World in some ways.

      PS: Just looking up fungus spores and I found: this ...which interested me and it may others, I dunno. Sorry it is from the Guardian, some of it may still be correct..

      Yes Steve - when you see the spores coming out like smoke there are so many it does make you want to keep it at arms length! The leader of this foray told a story that someone in America (!) had held a similar puffball in his mouth and puffed out the spores - and yes they killed him - but like most things I guess if you abuse them and don't respect them for what they are then you are kind of asking for it!
