Life after "retirement"

Rate this Entry
Someone said to me before I left the Army that I would be lost in civvy street and I would find it hard to adjust with the different lifestyle and find having to fend for myself for the first time in 26 years difficult.

Well, I've taken to it like a duck to water, for the first time in years there is no stress, no one to justify my decisions to, (except my wife), I now have stability, my family is a lot happier, and I'm content with life, though I do need to get a job as the DIY is coming to an end and the garden will soon be finished. I'm even getting out and about with my camera again.

So, if anyone reading this is leaving the Forces soon, there is life after retirement.

Incidentally, the same person asked me if I would do it all again, I replied "absolutely"

As I'm about to face yet another working weekend I can't wait to join you Ryan!

Just like you, I would do it all over again without hesitation.... but sometimes change is good for you. I'm really looking forward to having more than 3 weeks off in a row ...........the last time was when I was a schoolboy:-)

    5 months to go!

Just missed out on a dream job which involved installing cat 5 cable at all the Formula 1 racing events this year. At least my CV seems to be working as they contacted me. Oh well lets see what happens next.

    Coops,

After a while the novelty of having a lot of time on your hands wears off and there is only so many DIY and gardening jobs you can do.

Got a job interview on Wednesday at Lilleshall National Sports Centre as a Night Duty Manager. Should be fun if I'm successful.

After getting knocked back a few times on the job front I have finally got one. They contacted me over a week ago and after an impromptu interview I got the job which involves servicing and configuring electronic point of sales equipment. However I had to go self employed and now work under contract to them and I use an umbrella company to get my taxes and NI sorted every month rather than have to do them after a year so less stress.

As it is I'm on an a 3 month contract and if all goes well I may get taken on permanently which would be great as I think I'm going to enjoy working there.

My first day involves an early start and a trip to Liverpool and then Chester so should be good. Talk about being broke in gently.
