I still want a GPS enabled camera
Hi all,
Just a line to say that I keep watching out for GPS enabled cameras to come out.. but I am not seeing any!
If anyone spots any please do say here.
I've wanted a camera that adds GPS location info to my photos automatically for a very long time now.
Thanks in advance for any help or info anyone spots..

Re: I still want a GPS enabled camera
Steve,
Panasonic announced the TZ10 due out in March which will have built in GPS.

Just because you're paranoid it doesn't mean they're not out to get you.

Panasonic will be at Focus on Imageing so you may be able to get more info on the Panasonic with the GPS function.

Re: I still want a GPS enabled camera
John/Walter,
Thanks.
I found a price for it, about £350 it seems: http://astore.amazon.co.uk/panasonic...ail/B0031MA0ZO
I like to carry a small Panasonic with me day to day and my current one, with a similar spec but no GPS, cost something like £80 in the USA.
I suspect the new one will be down to £200 in no time. The cost seems aimed at those awaiting GPS.. I'd like to see it in oodles of cameras now, they seem to be taking their time over that.

I've had two of the TZ series and the TZ4 is my go-everywhere camera. They are excellent shirt pocket cameras and useful to have for their video alone. I've not paid more than £180 for either of them. The initial pricing of the TZ10 is for the people who have to have the latest thing as soon as it comes out.

Steve,
Another compact camera which was just announced, the Leica V-Lux 20 will have built in GPS tagging. A 12MP sensor and a 25-300mm 12x zoom make this a direct competitor of the Panasonic TZ10 but with a higher initial list price of £495.

Re: I still want a GPS enabled camera
John,
I want one of those! After a quick read of the page you linked to it looks like it might be a very good 'carry around' camera. The GPS and the Zoom etc would make it great for day to day use you'd think.
Not sure I can spend £495 for such a camera, my current Lumix carry around that I use now cost me something like £80 in Fry's in the USA.
So, I'll have to await the price dropping... and then I can hopefully get one. If I do get one somehow then I'd hope the next stage would be adding a map to ukexpert that showed all uploads made from these cameras by each member using them etc. - so we'd make full use of the GPS info in the photos it takes.
It is odd that the Web site says that it may not be able to work with GPS in China, I wasn't at all aware that they blocked GPS over there. Indeed, when my wife was out there a while back I gave her a Sony GPS to carry around, and it logged all of her photo locations just fine.

I thought that was odd too. The only things I can think of are bizarre - such as self-censorship by the Leica GPS when inside China. Or Leica are covering themselves in anticipation of future blocking of the signals. Iit doesn't make sense

Re: I still want a GPS enabled camera
..hmm... I looked at the TZ10 and it is coming down towards the £200 mark now.
This link is to £269 including VAT and delivery at present, at Dixons. It is funny that Curry's are much more expensive... same company and all that...

Re: I still want a GPS enabled camera
Steve,
The TZ10 and V-Lux 20 have very similar features and Leica make the lenses for Panasonic Lumix cameras so the differences between these two cameras are probably in the finish rather than functionality. I'm not sure I could justify the extra for the Leica badge. I've been very happy with my TZ4 so will probably go for a TZ10 when I replace the TZ4.
