Thumbs up Vote for a winner!

Please help us decide a winner in the latest subscriber competition.

The competition just ended and voting is now open. Just go to the photo area and the competition is up at the top and awaiting your decision!

Whilst talking of such things.. we'd also like to be awarding spot prizes for really neat photo uploads. Please draw attention to what you think are great photos by commenting on them and rating them. You can do that with photos just uploaded, or ones uploaded over recent months.. either way if we can see those here really rate a photo it helps prompt us to consider an award.

    Thanks for your help.

    Re: Vote for a winner!

...just to add to the praise. Coops did two things I think folks should know about re this competition.

    1) He voted for his closest competitor in the voting stage

    2) He has asked us to donate the value of his prize to a named charity, and we are arranging that now

We have a lot of good folks on ukexpert, and it makes me proud to see how they act.

Mind you, if Coops's wife Sheena finds out we offered hundreds of pounds worth of chocolates as the prize and Coops said he didn't need them, well...

Also for info, one of those who voted for Coops's image was the member whose photo was running on the same number of votes as Coops's one for a long time.

    Steve,

I spoil Sheena all the time, so if you don't mention chocolates, I won't either! LOL

    Thanks again

    Re: Vote for a winner!

    Coops,

Those who weren't at the ukexpert BBQ last weekend won't know that this is a running joke from that.. when in the raffle you chose red wine that you'd like over chocs that your wife Sheena might... Sheena's reaction was fun.. so carrying it on into this prize award seemed an idea...

That was an unusual raffle.. Lew normally draws the things as he has such a loud strong actors voice.. but for the first time he drew one of his own tickets as the first prize and so got himself a neat large capacity external drive for his PC..

    Steve

PS: My wife Majella probably wouldn't accept the notion of a husband 'treating' his wife.. as what's mine is hers, and what's hers is her own is I think her motto in life... Husbands and wives are equal though of course and so neither can really treat the other or buy them anything in a real way.. as it is 'their' resources they use to do it.

    Re: Vote for a winner!

OK - We have made a donation to Help for Heroes and said against it that it is for Coops at ukexpert.

You can see this here: https://www.bmycharity.com/V2/ukexpert

...you can also make your own direct donations at that spot and see them listed as connected with ukexpert. A great thing to do if anyone has a little they can spare to help others.

I've asked the charity for some graphics so we can put up some links from here to the site I link to above, and that way over time maybe ukexpert and its members can make a small difference to the lives of some of those injured while risking their lives for our country.

No matter what you think of wars and the politicians who start them, and no matter even what side you may feel you are on in any conflict, we should all be able to come together to help those injured.

    Re: Vote for a winner!

Hmmmm...! Well, the charity wrote back and said no to sending us the graphics we wanted to put up. They explained that if they form a 'relationship' with anyone in that way then the VAT/Tax people would treat them differently for tax on anything generated that way...

Seems a little odd as there are zillions of sites around promoting charities, and I doubt very much if the tax position is really all that bad. Putting up graphics and linking them is simply standard practice on the Web isn't it, that it could have tax change implications for the charity seems a really silly idea to me. I guess someone has told them that it is the same as football shirt sponsorship or whatever...maybe that is right maybe it isn't... if it is right it needs changing doesn't it. We have promoted charities in the past, Children in Need springs to mind.

So, it seems we can do no more than we already have on this one. A shame as I suspect we could have raised thousands for them over the years... and with just that page hidden away I can't see a lot happening.

I thought I'd explain as otherwise someone might think we couldn't be bothered.. when that is very much not the case.
