Can PS3 games be transferred to the hard drive

Hi

Does anyone know if games on a PS3 disk be transferred to the hard drive because my son has got FIFA 10 and it is getting scratched every time it is removed and on the odd occasion it has gone missing only to be found in some random dvd case.

I've looked on the internet and it makes it confusing with some posts saying it can be done but only with certain software, whilst others say it can't be done.

If any PS3 users can shed some light on this it would be appreciated.

I think it varies by game.. I need disks to play most of the ones I have.

With Warhawk, the main one I play, it does not use a disk on my machine and I like it that way, less hassle.

So really all I can suggest is to check all the options in the game and look at the official PS3 forum for it.

I see you logging in and out of these games as we set each other up as friends on the Playstation Network some time back. Tis neat how that works.. you get to see how much effort I am putting into Warhawk...

There are usually ways to break protection schemes for things like games machines and phones. I never do and I wouldn't recommend ever trying.. it would be quite simple to get banned from a network or whatever, and not having the use of the machine due to some concern about scratches or whatever would make no sense really. If a disk does scratch the makers will usually offer replacement services, and taking care of disks is an important lesson for game players.

Thanks for the reply. He'll have to take a bit more care with his games, he's on it more than me at present so I think a few hours on the PS3 myself are in order some day soon.

I don't want to do anything that gets me kicked off the network, look what happened to the xbox users who had chipped their boxes.

I'll have another look at the official website to see if there is something I may have missed though I have a feeling you're right and it depends on the game.

Just been on the PS site and eventually found what I was looking for, discs can't be copied over, though it does say that most games can be purchased from the PS3 shop and downloaded onto the hard drive. This sounds better for me as he'll not lose his discs or get them scratched.

If you buy 10 games at £39 then over time you have spent £390 and 9 of the games are probably no longer played. With a download that is usually that. With 9 x £39 games in their cases places like Blockbuster will give you quite a bit of trade in towards other items etc.. perhaps recovering half of the spend or whatever.

A thought anyway.

My girls have been buying video games for decades and we still have the ones they like best. All the less favoured ones have gone to Blockbuster and we have had quite a lot of credit that way.

You got a point there, so I may just download the odd one he likes playing like FIFA 10. He could play this all day if he could get away it.
