    Smile Weather Station

    Hi all,

I like to say here when I get any new gadgets that I think may be of interest to/fun for others here.

I always fancied a weather station but could never justify spending hundreds of pounds on one. However, in Maplin Harrow this week I noticed a special offer for £49 and snapped one up.

This seems to be the model or very similar to it: http://www.maplin.co.uk/usb-wireless...ecaster-223254

As you can see, the Maplin Web site talks of £125 for it.

If you want one I would get to a Maplin and see if they have the deal.

I can't say a lot about it as I only set it up yesterday. It is however in front of my computer screen telling me wind speed and direction, temp and humidity inside and out, and a mass of other info like air pressure and likely weather etc etc .. and it is also waiting to measure rain and so on. It has a lot of sensors and comes with a Wireless set of garden instruments and an indoor touch screen that connects to your PC via USB.

I'm sure there are better weather stations about but at £49 this one works for me.. and I am going to enjoy trying it with other software and seeing if I can put my local weather online etc.. perhaps even here on ukexpert. The software that comes with it seems pretty decent so far...and as well as monitoring things with it I've already been looking at graphs of the changing temperature and wind speed and so on. I've also already read of free software that is said to work with this kit for online display etc.

Hope the info is of use to someone..

    Steve,

That looks like an interesting piece of kit and If I wasn't in the middle of selling my house I think I would be interested myself. At £49 it is not going to break the bank that's for sure.
I'm sure you will get a lot of interest out of it.

I've got this thing called internet access and can apparently get the weather forecast from it.......

I do like gadgets but don't have a Maplin's anywhere near here.

You can... but it won't tell you things like the temperature in your garden and house, nor all the other readings it does.

I do like gadgets but don't have a Maplin's anywhere near here.

The above is what I got when I entered 'frozen north ' into the Maplin store finder...
If they have those new fangled cars in your area now you should get to one in 10-20 minutes or so. Even using your horse and buggy it doesn't sound too far...
At your age I wouldn't be getting new gadgets anyway... you'll probably be past operating electrical items sometime soon now...

    Steve - at 23.8c with 27% humidity...

    Nigel,

In your case I suspect it does....

I've been sitting here trying to figure how high above sea level I am and how to use that to get a relative pressure for my barometer readings... but I suppose drinking something good would make more sense...

Sadly my idea of a good drink is a diet cola...

I thought that was a horse graphic I used in the last message.. seems it is a Llama...

    Re: Weather Station

    Steve,
I KNOW the height I am above sea level. When we moved here, there was not one contour line on an OS map of the area. Now there's a few little ones. All marked 0.

    Re: Weather Station

    Nigel,

That would mean that you'd find setting up a weather station easy there as the relative and absolute air pressures would be the same then from what I can make of it.

Here we are about 120ft up it seems.

    Mike,

That looks like a good way to look the info up doesn't it.

I looked at the information for Northolt Airport as that seemed good enough - and from that map it seems to come up with the same sort of figures.
