Question Picture Transfer Protocol on Windows 2000

Just got new Fuji S5700. Great but can't transfer stuff from camera without installing the whole Fuji cd (large) as it uses the new file transfer protocol. I expected I would just get a new drive letter and drag the pictures from there. XP works if I install the Fuji ptp driver. Anybody know if there is a small app that runs under Win2k that will work? (Don't want to do it via card reader).

    Hi Kevin

    Welcome to ukexpert.

Just had a look on the Fuji website and they have the driver listed as covering XP and W2K and its only 1Mb. Click here

    Hope it helps.

Cool Re: Picture Transfer Protocol on Windows 2000

Ryan, thanks for pointing out about the driver but that's all it is. It just says the camera is connected or not. It needs an application on top. Looks like I'll have to install the whole Fuji cd on my laptop - it's a bit heavyweight and will fill up my hard drive. Will try the card reader approach and see it that works.

    Kevin

Are you shooting in RAW or taking JPEGs as RAW will require a standalone converter because you should be able to plug n play and drag and drop with no problems.

Re: Picture Transfer Protocol on Windows 2000

Ryan, thanks for suggestion. The S5700 doesn't do raw as far as I know, only jpg. The bundle came with a 512mb xD card so bought a cheapie card reader of eB*y and can now get files from the camera and into the laptop without drivers and any large amounts of software. It will even do SD cards as well!.Will stick with that method until I find a small application that will do the same via usb cable directly. Thanks.

Hello Kevin, you could try "Picassa2" by Google. I'ts free not too big and seems to work with most files ie Raw,Raf, Jpg,Tiff etc. This is staight from the camera using a usb cable...Kenny
