    Thumbs up Keyboard/Mouse tip

For all of you with less than perfect eyesight, I'm certainly one of them, here is a little tip that maybe of help.

If you have a email or perhaps a web page in a smaller print than is comfortable to read hold down the CTRL key at the same time as moving the wheel on the mouse this has the effect of enlarging or reducing the print size depending which way the wheel is moved.

It doesn't work on all web pages,UKX being one of them, but does seem to work all emails, word documents etc and a lot of web pages.

I hope this is of some use to someone.

    Mike,

    Tis a useful tip.

The control of text sizes in IE6 is under View > Text Size and you can alter the text on some Web sites there. Your tip alters that setting in IE6.

One unfortunate effect of making text even the next size larger is that it will destroy some Web site displays on your PC.. and make them very hard to use/read.

One major example is this one: http://www.blueyonder.co.uk/blueyonder/index.jsp

...Blueyonder sites seem to have some of the worst displays anywhere, and this sort of thing demonstrates the sort of problems they have. ie you don't just get larger text, everything gets really messed up.

For anyone who likes to keep their text at large the effect is to make sites like Blueyonder pretty unusable.

My personal view has always been that it seems best to mess about with the monitor you use and its settings to get a great display you can read with ease... and to leave the IE6 text size settings at their default so Web sites look/work as intended.

    Steve,

I took a look at the blueyonder site, and as you say it is totally unreadable when you start to change it.

I wasn't really suggesting to change web sites that way only to point out that it is possible, I think the majority of the web sites are set up OK for the readability of the text.

However with email, particually if received in a very small print, this is a quick and easy way to make it larger.

Their is a accessory on windows xp called the magnifier.

    Click on Start/All Programes/Accessories/Accessability/Magnifier.

This will work in IE6 and Firefox, and their is no problem using it with the UKX site either.

When you click on magnifier the page shrinks slightly and the line the mouse cursor is on at that time is magnified at the top of the computer screen.

Their are nine different magnification settings for various levels of eyesight ability.
