Very interesting. I just decided to replace my Canon 300D and ordered a Canon 20D to be delivered Friday.

The Nikon D70 seems to be the pick of the sub £1000 DSLR's according to most reviews I've seen. That often seems to be based on build quality and program facilities as much as anything else.

Wow, it seems like only yesterday you got the 300D!

If you decide to part with it really cheaply please keep me in mind...

Reading about the 1Ds tells me it has a lot of the things I want, though not all. I just looked up this page on it and it was neat to see some of what was said: http://www.fredmiranda.com/1Ds_review/

Canon's range now seems to be:

EOS-1Ds Mark II - 16.7 Megapixel full frame 35mm sensor, 4 fps
EOS-1D Mark II - 8.2 Megapixel APS-H size sensor, 8.5 fps
EOS 20D - 8.2 Megapixel APS-C size sensor, 5.0 fps
EOS 350D - 8.0 Megapixel APS-C size sensor, 3.0 fps.


I'm still a little tempted by the idea of picking up a 1Ds cheaply and there was B grade stock at the recent show etc... but I'm hoping to see something new from Canon that does what the 1Ds does and more, for much less money...

Wow, it seems like only yesterday you got the 300D!

8 months ago. It's a nice camera but I had no idea what level of performance I would want in a digital camera. I like the handling (which is very important to me) and the picture quality (which is what matters at the end of the day) but I want something faster to use. The 300D's time from switch-on to first use irritates me a lot, as does waiting for the buffer to empty when several shots are taken in quick succession. The 20D offers much shorter times.

If you decide to part with it really cheaply please keep me in mind...

I probably will part with it fairly soon. I have given a friend first refusal, but as they have a Minolta film camera and lenses they may well decide not to buy a Canon.

Me too. But it is out of my price league (for now) .
